Article Summary

Add a widget

a - Basic configuration

1. Add the first widget

To add the first widget, click on "Select data", then choose the field you want to see, in the example, the CA HT.

By default, the type of widget proposed is of type "indicator. Once on this screen, you can continue editing the widget here and then click "Create", or deepen the creation of the widget by clicking on "Advanced Setup".

2. Basic configuration

By right-clicking on the name of the fields (in blue), you have the possibility to rename it, change its aggregation type, as well as access some quick functions.

By adding fields, you will have access to more types of widgets.

Let's imagine then that we want to see the turnover HT by product family in the form of a bar graph. You must then add the "Family" field from the Products table, then select the type of visualization desired.

You can then press create, or click on Advanced setup (you can click on this option from the start).

b - Advanced configuration

With the advanced setup, the widget creation screen is changed and you will get the following screen:

The screen consists of three parts: the data panel on the left, the visualization in the center, and two combination panels on the right: Filters and Design. You can also choose the type of visualization you want here from the drop-down list just above the data panel.

The data and design panel varies depending on the widget selected.

The filter panel is always the same and is divided into two parts: at the top the filters applied on the dashboard, then the filters applied at the widget level (optional).

1. Data Panel

For an indicator widget, it is divided into two parts: "Values" and "Secondary". To add a calculated field, simply click  on the + and a drop-down list with all the fields will appear.

By default, fields that have a number format in the database will add up, and fields that have a text format will return the number of distinct values contained in the column.

Each data field has a number of customization options (may vary depending on the type of field and widget):

The main ones are:

Aggregation. By default, this is a separate sum or number of values. For fields in number format, it is possible to modify this aggregation: sum, count the number of values, count the number of distinct values, minimum, maximum, mean, median, variance, standard deviation.

Change the format of the numbers (number, currency, percentage, number of decimal places, abbreviations...)

Remove the field from the visualization.

Change the calculated value (selected column, formula).

Change the color of the visualization. Can be defined uniquely or under conditions.

Formula. To modify it, click on the pencil icon.

Filter values (works the same way as the filters in the dashboard, but will only be applied to this widget. You will find them in the widget's filters panel.)

Sort values (ascending, descending, no sorting).

Show or hide values, rows, columns...

For date fields, allows you to modify the time scale (year, quarter, month, week, day, hour).

For date fields, format the date (dd MM yyyy, dd MMM yy, etc.).

Extract from the different personalization screens:

It is also possible to change the name of the value by double-clicking on its name; This will also change its name on the visualization.

2. Filter panel

The first part is about dashboard filters. It is possible to disable them one by one or all together by clicking on the toggle buttons. Be careful, a filter disabled at the dashboard level cannot be reactivated at the widget level.

Depending on the widgets, it is possible to modify the behavior of the dashboard filters: sector / filter or highlight.

For some widgets (tables, column charts), the "Highlight" option will highlight the data concerned by this filter, while the "Sector / Filters" option will only display the selected value of the filter.

The second part is about the widget filters. They can be added either from the data panel (funnel icon) or by clicking on + and defining the filter (as we would do at the dashboard level).

For example, for a pivot table, from the data panel, you can define a widget filter either from the rows or from the values, for example by choosing only the first 10 values. The applied filter will then appear in the widget's filters tab.

Wait!
Don't forget to click "Apply" to save the changes made.

3. Duplicate or delete a widget

Once a widget is created, it can sometimes be easier to duplicate and then modify it than to recreate a widget from scratch.

To do this, from the dashboard view, simply click on the widget menu, then on "Duplicate".

To delete a widget, simply click on "Delete".

Careful!
Once the widget is deleted, you will not be able to recover it.

c - Impact of the widget on the dashboard

As a designer, you can choose how the widget will interact with the dashboard (see viewers section, filter a dashboard and interact with a widget).

You can choose whether the widget will be able to filter the dashboard by clicking (or selecting an element) or if the user will be able to explore it on another dimension. Be careful, this is only valid on certain widgets!

By clicking on the widget menu at the top left, you will have a drop-down list of options from which "Selection: The widget affects dashboard filters" and "Explore: enable exploration anywhere".

By clicking on each of them, you will be able to activate or deactivate them.

Although the "Enable browsing anywhere" option is disabled, it is still possible to give the user the option to explore the widget through predefined hierarchies.

You can select the hierarchy by clicking on the category menu in the data panel, then click on "Hierarchies...". Select the hierarchy you want and click OK.

Careful!
Hierarchies can only be created by an administrator. Please contact us if necessary.
